Paxton House fundraising appeal
The Paxton Trust has launched a fundraising appeal to support the survival of Paxton House and Gardens, located in the Scottish borderlands. Chippendale Society member and noted London furniture dealer, Ronald Phillips Ltd, have sent photographs of a suite of seat furniture, part of their current stock, which must surely be from the workshop of Thomas Chippendale. Chippendale Society acquires missing Garrick bill
The Chippendale Society is pleased to announce that it has acquired a previously unknown bill for furnishings supplied by Thomas Chippendale to the actor David Garrick in 1770. Unrecorded Chippendale chairs surface in Sussex
A pair of previously unknown Chippendale chairs were sold last autumn at Denham’s Auctioneers, Sussex (6 October, Lot 168). The chairs are in the familiar Chippendale ‘cabriole’ style of the 1770s and share decorative elements with chairs at Nostell Priory and Petworth House in particular.
